The US based defense contract giant Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC) has successfully completed repairs to a wing spar on a U.K. E-3D Sentry Airborne Warning and Control System (UK AWACS) aircraft and delivered it to the Royal Air Force ahead of schedule.

John Parker, director, global logistics and modernization, Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC) Technical Services said, “We look at the entire WLSP program not as a customer-contractor relationship but more as a partnership to ensure 24/7 mission availability of Sentry aircraft. The capabilities at the Lake Charles facility and the dedication of the entire workforce enabled the team to complete the repairs ahead of schedule.”

The US defense company Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) has successfully completed the test of its surveillance and fire-control radar system in Utah on the Joint Land Attack Cruise Missile Defense Elevated Netted Sensor System (JLENS).

The radar system met all the requirements of the test including detecting and tracking targets and integrating information with fire control and tactical data link systems.

Raytheon (NYSE:RTN)’s program director for JLENS Mark Rose said, “In addition to detecting and tracking targets, the system demonstrated its ability to communicate targeting data over command and control systems, such as Link-16, and interface with combat identification support systems, such as IFF (Identify Friend or Foe), to discriminate between friendly and hostile aircraft and missiles”.

According to Maryland’s labor department, the defense contract giant Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC) is planning to lay off 224 employees starting in April.

David Apt, a Northrop Grumman (NYSE:NOC) spokesman said, “The cuts are the result of Northrop Grumman losing a Department of Defense contract after the work was put up for bids. Most of the employees are expected to be rehired by the new contract holder.”

The US defense contractor Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) has showed off its latest version of F-16 Fighting Falcon, F-16V, at the Singapore Air Show.

This 4th generation F-16 features active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar, an upgraded mission computer and architecture and improvements to the cockpit.

Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT)’s Aeronautics’ vice president George Standridge said, “We believe this F-16V will satisfy our customers’ emerging requirements and prepare them to better interoperate with the 5th generation fighters, the F-35 and F-22”.

Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) Company has awarded an initial contract to Contraves Advanced Devices Sdn. Bhd.Malasia, for the production and supply of components for the Evolved Sea Sparrow Missile (ESSM).

Contraves is the first Malaysian company to join the global team of ESSM suppliers.

Kevin Peppe, vice president of Seapower Capability Systems for Raytheon (NYSE:RTN)’s Integrated Defense Systems business, said that, “Through this partnership with Contraves, Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) is extending our global supply chain network and enhancing our presence and expertise in Malaysia. Raytheon (NYSE:RTN)’s shared commitment to quality and performance will allow us to deliver exceptional capabilities to our customer and industry, now and into the future”.

General Dynamics (NYSE:GD) NASSCO’s Vice President of Programs, Kevin Graney, said, “Our technology is designed to address several operational and shipbuilding constraints of existing LNG tank technologies while further enabling the use of LNG as a clean, sustainable energy source.”

West Falls Church based defense conglomerate and fifth largest defense contractor in the world, General Dynamics (NYSE:GD), has reportedly won a $3.6 million contract from the Canadian Army to provide Vehicle Interface Unit Amplifiers for Canadian Forces communications equipment.

The Canadian government has announced that the contract also has provisions for the purchase of additional units for a total value of $7.3 million from General Dynamics (NYSE:GD) over the next two years.
