Express Scripts (NASDAQ:ESRX) has received a $2.4 billion prescription drug contract.

The Maryland Board of Public Works has awarded a five year contract worth $2.4 billion to the pharmaceutical company Express Scripts (NASDAQ:ESRX) to provide prescription drugs for state employees.

This contract could help the state to save $100 million.

The prescription drug program provides drugs to 219,000 state employees and retirees.

Express Scripts (NASDAQ:ESRX) senior regional director Ron Tyson said, “The contract cost that is expected to save the state $100 million was evaluated as if Walgreens was still there”.

Express Scripts (NASDAQ:ESRX) company shares are currently standing at 50.28.
