According to a news release by Smoothstone IP Communications, it will make its cloud-based voice solutions available over the Sprint Global network of Sprint Nextel (NYSE:S). The technology uses cloud computing, whereby software and other services are accessed by the Internet rather than by on-site hardware.

This newly launched service be integrated with Sprint Nextel’s (NYSE:S) existing phone structure by preserving investments already made in communications infrastructure.

Caterpillar Inc. (NYSE:CAT)

Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT) has suspended its plan to build mining shovels in Chicago.
The project to manufacture a new line of mining shovels by Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT) in its Aurora facility has been now put on hold due to company’s purchase of mining equipment maker Bucyrus. The Aurora facility, which has about 1,400 employees, was expected to create 300 more jobs in the region through 2014.

Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT) said in a statement, “With this pending acquisition, which is expected to close in mid-2011, employees have been informed that the company is suspending all development and capital investment for Caterpillar (NYSE:CAT) mining shovels at its Aurora, Illinois, facility—effective immediately.”
