It has been reported that Royal Dutch Shell plc (LON:RDSA) has plans to drill Alaska’s Arctic in 2012.

The head of Royal Dutch Shell plc (LON:RDSA) U.S. has said that it is expecting to drill in Alaska’s Arctic waters in the summer of next year and have in place an oil-containment system specifically designed for the area ready at the same time.

Marvin Odum, the president of Royal Dutch Shell plc (LON:RDSA) Oil Co., the U.S. unit of the Anglo-Dutch giant said that, “Our aspiration is to drill in the 2012 season. We are hopeful, but also cautions. It takes about six months to build up the capacity you need to start the program. This is a very significant resource for the country, which is worth pursuing, and we are focused on getting it done.”
