Safeway (NYSE:SWY) has announced that a companywide effort to activate its labor force and renovate communities resulted in employees volunteering one million hours in 2011.

Larree Renda, Safeway Executive Vice President and Chair of the Safeway Foundation, said that, “The number of hours along with the stories about employees who unselfishly gave their valuable time are inspiring and humbling. Through their generosity, our employees are making a meaningful difference in the communities where they work and live.”
