Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) has reportedly checked the S-band radar’s technical maturity to detect space debris orbiting the Earth.

Space Fence, a subsidiary of the Waltham, Massachusetts, based American defense contractor and industrial corporation Raytheon (NYSE:RTN), has reportedly completed a comprehensive Preliminary Design Review of its S-band radar’s technical maturity to find out space debris orbiting the Earth.

David Gulla, Raytheon (NYSE:RTN)’s Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) business vice president of Global Integrated Sensors, said, “We feel confident that Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) is offering the U.S. Air Force an affordable, low-risk solution by virtue of mature and advanced technologies we’re employing. We have applied radar expertise Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) has acquired during the past 70 years to build a Space Fence system that detects and tracks resident space objects much smaller than with the system used today.”

Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) has secured a $96.1 million contract to provide Paveway IV precision guided bombs.

Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) has received an order to deliver Paveway IV precision guided bombs to the UK Army under a 60 million pounds ($96.1 million) contract.

However, the company did not give the number of munitions it will supply to the Army.

The British Air Force has used Paveway munitions since 2008 and more than 1,000 have been deployed in aircrafts.

Terence Marsden, Paveway IV program chief engineer at Raytheon (NYSE:RTN), said, “More than 1,000 have been used in combat since the type entered use in November 2008. We’re nearing 100% reliability”.

Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) has successfully completed the first guided test flight of Small Tactile Munition Phase II when the weapon directly hit the target.

STM Phase II is a precision-guided, gravity dropped bomb which can be deployed from manned and unmanned aircrafts.

Thomas R. Bussing, Raytheon (NYSE:RTN)’s vice president of Advanced Missiles and Unmanned Systems, said, “STM Phase II is ideally suited to weaponize Shadow-class unmanned aircraft systems and counterinsurgency aircraft because STM is a mature, precise and affordable weapon. STM gives warfighters flexibility because it enables them to engage moving and static targets with minimal collateral damage”.

Under the deal, the Missile Systems unit of Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) will build the Munitions Control Units (MCUs) for 126 Indian Air Force Jaguar Darin II attack aircraft.

Harry Schulte, Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) Missile Systems’ vice president of Air Warfare Systems said, “MCU will give the Jaguar the capability to employ smart or advanced weapons like the Joint Standoff Weapon, Maverick missile, Paveway precision-guided munition, and AIM-9M Sidewinder air-to-air missile.”

The Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) has awarded a contract to Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) to extend its support for the Combined Federated Battle Laboratories Network (CFBLNet) used by US and coalition forces.

CFBLNet is a global research, test and evaluation computer network analyzing information-sharing capabilities.

Mike Prout, Raytheon (NYSE:RTN)’s vice president of Security and Transportation Systems, said, “Flexibility and responsiveness to rapidly changing schedules and priorities are another example of Raytheon (NYSE:RTN)’s support for U.S. and coalition forces. Together, we are ensuring the ability of coalition forces around the globe to explore, promote and confirm capabilities and interoperability before fielding”.

The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded a 2012 ENERGY START Sustained Excellence Award to Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) for the fifth consecutive year for its outstanding contribution to environmentally friendly initiatives.

EPA selected the defense company from 20,000 public and private ENERGY STAR partners.

Raytheon (NYSE:RTN)’s chairman and CEO William H. Swanson said, “It is a great honor to once again receive this outstanding recognition. Since Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) joined the ENERGY STAR program, it has been exciting to see how passionate our teammates continue to be about Raytheon (NYSE:RTN)’s sustainability efforts. The technology maker Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) has extended its contract with Fidelity Investments through 2017 for defined contribution retirement services.

Fidelity will deliver 401(k) record keeping services to the company participants as part of the renewed contract. The companies are working together for the past 20 years.

Diane Avellar, vice president of Benefits, Performance Development and Global Health Resources at Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) said, “Our benefits team performed a careful review of providers to ensure our participants are receiving superior service with access to leading education and online technology to help guide our employees with their retirement planning. Fidelity’s record of excellent service and its continuous commitment to providing the best participant experience made them the clear choice”.

US Army has awarded a TOW missile subsystems support contract to Raytheon (NYSE:RTN).

Raytheon Gets Missile Contract

Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) has received a five year, $77.9 million contract from the US Army to provide logistic and engineering support for Army’s TOW (tube-launched, optically tracked, wire-guided) missile subsystems.

As part of the contract, the company will also provide provisioning and repair support, field engineering support, configuration management and technical engineering support to Close Combat Systems.

John Harris of Raytheon (NYSE:RTN) said, “The customer’s selection of Technical Services as a prime contractor affirms our strong capabilities in providing engineering services and innovative, cost-effective customer solutions. Together, RTSC and Raytheon Missile Systems’ engineering and logistics solutions will support systems from Huntsville to Afghanistan and offer assurance to our warfighters that they have systems that perform anytime and everywhere”.
