The grocery retailer Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT) is testing a new iPhone app checkout system ahead of the rumored iPhone 5 release.

The new “Scan & Go” app allows customers to scan items as they walk through stores and to pay at a self-checkout counter.

The retailer spends $12 million per second in cashier wages at its US stores. This app will potentially help the retailer to save money.

David Tovar, a Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT) spokesman, said, “We’re continually testing new and innovative ways to serve customers and enhance the shopping experience in our stores”.
