Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT) has decided to go forward with genetically modified sweet corn sales.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT), one of the world’s largest retailers, confirmed that it has decided to sell genetically modified sweet corn through its stores.

Some consumers and environmental and health activists had asked the retailer not to sell the product, developed by biotech giant Monsanto.

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (NYSE:WMT) said in a statement, “After closely looking at both sides of the debate and collaborating with a number of respected food safety experts, we see no scientifically validated safety reasons to implement restrictions on this product”.
