The chairman of Ford Motor Co. (NYSE:F), William C. Ford Jr., vowed Friday that the auto maker will begin efforts to shed its heavy debt load and said a stock offering by competitor General Motors Co. could siphon off some of the demand for Ford shares. William C. Ford Jr. made it clear to reporters that the company will continue to pay off its debt as fast as it can. Ford has $27.3 billion in automotive debt, whereas GM has only $8.1 billion after declaring bankruptcy last year.

Tuesday 24 August

A lot of talk has been made of GM’s upcoming IPO, however Ford boss Bill Ford has said that he’s not scared of the prospect of their competitor returning.

The upcoming GM stock offering could be as large as 16 billion, and will likely draw some investors to trade their Ford shares in on a new GM stake.

But Bill Ford remains focused on his company’s fundamental performance. At an even in Royal Oak, Michigan today, Bill Ford told reporters, “It doesn’t make any difference to me where our shares are or their shares are on any given day.”

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) shares are up 19% this year.

No, this isn’t Savile Row, but there has been a breakthrough in tailoring. Tailor-making cars, that is.

Ford (NYSE:F) is now using Wi-Fi to load custom software packages into cars navigation and entertainment systems, hoping that this new cost-effective means of tailored attracts a new generation of buyers who will opt to have their car made-to-order rather than buying one off the lot.

Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) said on Thursday that is has come to an agreement with electronics retailer Best Buy to provide 290 of its smart-looking Transit Connect work vans for the company’s Geek Squad service technicians.

The Ford Transit Connect received “Van of the Year 2004″ from Professional Van and Light Truck Magazine.
